Two Neat Web Apps: Text-Image.com and Mentionmap

by Chris Saturday, December 19 2009

Found two neat websites that are worth "mentioning" -- Text-Image.com and Mentionmap.

What are they? Well here's the down-low.

Text-Image.com -- Generate cool text-images from your own pictures or photos. Perhaps an oldie, but still a goodie. Pretty amazing.

Mentionmap -- If you use Twitter, you will appreciate this web app. It creates an interactive spider-web-style map of your Twitter network. Great for finding new people to follow.

dmoz logoI have been informed from a very reliable source that DMOZ 2.0 (Open Directory Project: Part Deux) will be launching VERY soon. In fact, there are preparations being put in place at this very moment in order to facilitate the rollover from the antiquated directory to the shiny new one, which will be unveild to the world in the not-so-distant future.

Do You Write Rubbish?

by Chris Friday, November 13 2009

Trashcan Cat

Do you write rubbish?

Do you sometimes feel that your blog posts are not reaching their full audience potential? Do you spend several sleepless nights a week tossing and turning in your bed with nightmares of low readership?

If so, than this post is for you. (and me)

As the title suggests, maybe you are just writing terribad (terribly-bad) articles, heck one may even argue that this article is subpar, but I'll let you in on a little secret... IT DOESN'T MATTER.

Ninety-nine point nine percent (99.9%) of people who write articles or post blog entries do it because they feel the inner-urge to put what is inside of them on to paper. Whether it be politically, creatively, or empirically-driven, writing for yourself first is the best way to approach it -- and if people happen to like it along the way... then kudos!!

Sure, there are popular sites which are more well-read, get all kinds of comments, and get tweeted around the globe, but does that make your posts any less valuable? No.

For example, our company blog gets, on average, around forty (40) unique visitors per day. Now that is a far cry away from say, the Men With Pens Blog, or Matt Cutts' blog, but it's actually quite good if you consider that with only forty (40) unique visits per day, it ranks in the top one percent (1%) of ALL websites for visitor traffic.

Now, you may be asking: Chris, what does it all mean? -- Well, I will tell you.

It means that you should continue writing. No matter what. Just stay the course, even if you think it’s rubbish.

(Queue cliché outro)

…because “practice makes perfect”, “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure”, and “if you build it -- they will come".
